We just moved to Indianapolis and are looking for a good estate lawyer to draw up a will for us. I checked with Angie's list and could not find reviews for lawyers. Thank you for any responses.

We just recently used Jeff Cadwell from Smith & Wade, LLP to do our estate planning. We thought he did a great job but might not be convenient depending on what part of Indianapolis you are in. Their main offices are in Noblesville, but he also has an office in the Precedent office park south of 96th Street east of Keystone.

Also, The IndyAdvocate law firm are well respected Indianapolis probate attorneys known for doing probate and estate legal issues. They are located across the street from the City-County building a block and a half from the circle if you are looking for someone downtown you can work with.

You can do it yourself at legalzoom.com. you need to fihure out your situation. Can you get by with a will or rlt. I would lean towards the trust since Will's are basically useless pieces of paper until probated which means public. You want your stuff private so a revocable living trust is your bet as long as its funded. Your goal is to stay out of probate, esp living probate which is a nightmare unlike anything you've seen.

The amount of pure BS posted on these forums never ceases to amaze me, especially when it comes to legal matters. Maybe people are drunk and posting? Or are they just stupid?

Do you want to screw up the lives of your kids and your grandchildren? Make up a trust from some forms you download from an internet website. Don't go to an attorney, and forget about having a will, because it's "public."

For what it's worth, probate is not a nightmare.

Or, do you want to go around reviving old threads so you can promote a business, like say, a law firm?

Funny, Will's first and foremost are NOT legal until signed off by a judge that IS public information. Anyone of you can go to the clerks office and pull probate cases and see who got what. Nothing private about it. RLT's are in fact legal documents, generally requires two witnesses and a notary at signing and private and general instruction on how to fund the trust. You do realize when you pay the small fee for advice on lz it's with an attorney licensed in that state.

Now if anyone of you is 100% sure no one is going to contest your will hey, go for it. If you are a blended family good luck with that when you leave a nice bit to the step children. If you want your wishes done, rlt with an honorable successor trustee.

You say probate isn't that bad. Do you know why lawyers, drs, hospitals etc stress living wills, poa's for both health and financial? Because living probate which is what can happen when these directives aren't in place is bad when the courts have to step in. There are more Terry schiavo's out there than you think. Even death probate. James Brown died in '06 and his estate is STILL in probate. Heirs haven't seen a dime.
