Hi,

We are relocating to the Indianapolis area in the next 6 to 8 weeks. My husband has accepted a position in the Carmel area. I am also searching for a job and I am Human Resources Mgr./Director. We want to go ahead and purchase a home so that we can get our kids settled into a neighborhood and they can make fiends before school starts.

We like the Carmel area but given the fact that I have not found a job yet I am not sure that is the best choice given the traffic that we hear about. I would like to find a suburb that is centrally located and close to a major highway so I could try to keep a commute around 30 minutes or so. It goes without saying schools are also very important to us.

Any advice and suggestions on possible locations would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The traffic is not that bad, IMO, but the U.S. 31 project will certainly muck things up a bit once it gets going. If you can find the right home at the right price in Carmel, I think you should consider living there.

I just moved from NYC a month ago! My boss lives in Zionsville, our company is in Carmel, and the commute is about 20 to 30 minutes. She has a kid and she said the school system there is supposed to be really good.

Only people in Indiana think the traffic is horrible ...

I was surprised to hear about this:

I agree, traffic is not that bad. However, you may want to consider West Carmel which will give you easier access to both 465 and 65 if you find something downtown. TONS of people who work downtown live in Carmel and make the commute everyday.

You can't go wrong with either Carmel or Zionsville schools although Zionsville lack of business tax base combined with the new tax caps does concern me for the long term health of their schools but that is just speculation. West Carmel might be your best bet but that real estate market is HOT right now.
