I was not able to cut and paste the link here, but on Yahoo Indianapolis is ranked number 1 again for most affordable housing market, with the median income at $66,900( up from the 45k I saw on City Data), median home price at 102k, and affordability score of 95.8%. How do you think the numbers will look a few years from now (when I relocate)?

PS, nvm the first thing I said. Here is the link:

My guess it that we'll still be among the most affordable, but I do think that number can be misleading. In many of the most desirable areas of metro Indy (both inside and outside the city limits), $102K won't cut it. It's a median, not an average price.

Let me think. Where can I go in or around Indy to buy a nice house for $102K? Hmmm. That target price is going to take me to some pretty trashy houses and areas.

I believe that prices have gone up in Brooks Chase after a lot of HUD foreclosures were cleared out. One in particular I know of was purchased for around $100K a couple of years ago but it was pretty much gutted. Everything was stripped from that house and basically a shell. The previous owners must have delighted in taking everything they could including the fixtures, bathroom vanities and sinks, faucets, toilets, garbage disposal, appliances, built-ins, etc. What does a foreclosed owner do with all that stuff? Perhaps some of the neighbors also helped themselves to stuff. I didn't notice anyone from the Bristols walking home carrying a toilet.

I bought my house for well under $102K. Please, come for a visit and tell me how trashy I am.
