This may be old news for most of the people who live in Indy, but for anyone new to the area, you need to check out the concerts at Conner Prairie in Fishers, IN.

I had never been, mainly because I worried about taking the kids, I worried about the price, the traffic, blah blah blah. I made excuses I guess. But last Saturday, I got free tickets to go see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and I fell in love with the experience!

Bring your blanket and/or chairs, your picnic basket... you can even bring alcohol! People around us had bottles of wine, picnic dinners, many even brought small picnic table to set up. We felt a little left out with only a blanket, some bottled water, and light snacks.

I was worried that the kids would be bored if we got there too early and they had to wait for the band to start, so I told them to bring a football. Luckily, we ended up sitting towards one side and an adjacent field! They went over there to play and I could watch them from the blanket!

People all around us were very friendly. The band was fantastic, aand the dance floor was packed. We even got to meet the band afterwards and my boys LOVED the band. Unfortunately, this was the last show of the season, but next year, I plan to attend a LOT more of these shows!!

We live close enough that we can hear it from our house sometimes. In fact, the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy one sounded like it was right in our back yard! It could be a great experience given the price but the two times we've been, we didn't enjoy that people around us would talk and laugh loudly through the whole concert. Maybe both times we went we just sat in a bad area. And if it was free, like the free concerts at the Municipal Complex on Tuesdays during summer, we wouldn't mind people around us all talking, but we paid to see the concert, not be annoyed by people around us talking loudly. So it kind of left a bitter taste in our mouth.

How has the lockout of the ISO affected the Conner Prairie Event? I dropped my news subscription so have not kept up with the current news.

The last Conner Prairie show for 2012 was last Saturday. The next season won't start until next summer. At this point it's unclear how the ISO contract resolution (when it happens) will affect Symphony on the Prairie.

I didn't really hear anyone talking during the concert, but it was a good loud one. I don't think I would have minded during that show anyway, I expect people to talk. Maybe if it were quiet, classical music I would have felt differently.

Michelle Morris, you may already know this, but if you liked Big Bad Voodoo Daddy they are doing a Christmas concert on December 7th at The Palladium. My husband and I just bought tickets last night. I can't wait

Thanks, BlueTurkey, I did see that, and I might need to go check it out. I haven't been to the Palladium yet either. I love big bands like that, (especially when they dress up like mummies, haha!).
