2006 Ford Five Hundred 60k miles. Naperville, IL

Safe driving record, no accidents or tickets, short commute.

GEICO insurance, basic coverage, $600 per year.

Considering move to Fishers, IN and getting quotes AT LEAST $300 per year more for same coverage.

Is IN a bad place for auto insurance or is there something I should know?

I expected my rates to be lower.

Thanks!

Are you a homeowner, do you have at least 6 months prior coverage with another carrier, are you married?

Some companies have raised their rates, but will lower them if you agree to an electronic monitoring device ala Progressive.

Find an independent agent who can shop across several companies for you, instead of a captive agent.

Hard to tell im banking you already have geico. You wont know yiur actual rate until they run that credit check for the big companies. Commute times matter, vehicle thefts in the zip code etc. You also did not say whether or not u r recieving discounts with your current policy

I live in Fishers and insurance on both my minivan and my wife's Toyota are about $1200 annually. But we have homeowners insurance through the same company.

I moved from the Chicago area to the 46032 zip code (Carmel) and my auto insurance and homeowners both are more expensive here. I have a clean driving record and have my home and auto with the same company through an independent agent.

The exact location where the car is garaged makes a huge difference. Different addresses can and most cases will result in different rates. Do you have a lapse in coverage because that was result in an rate increase? I know for a fact that GEICO takes in account your credit, level of education, your profession, and the driving records of ALL household members when it rates a policy.

Try the independent agent route. Some companies do not use credit history to rate their policies.
