Paul Shoopman bought this property some time ago in the hopes of building a development there, but the land is heavily contaminated. It can take 30 years or more for this stuff to clear up, and even then I doubt residential property would ever be built there. I think the answer for us is going to be "no" to Eagles Nest. I worry about what will happen to the prices of those homes in the coming years, and my feeling is they are already overpriced. I think we will look to stay in Carmel since we know the area better, and it is more established so we will have a little less to worry about in terms of the community taking a downturn.

Thanks for all who posted, this was a big help!
That's probably a good choice. I really only see Carmel's housing prices increasing with time. They are approaching the point of being completely built out and if you can live in the house for 5-10 years or so, it'll probably give you a nice ROI.

Default Eagles Nest

Hi. Just saw your post. It seems to be a nice, family friendly community really. My wife and I recently bought a house in Eagles Nest. We love the location. Not right next to the city, yet its close enough to get there quickly. Especially since its so close to the interstate!! We can't wait to move in.....

Well, I have been meaning to update my post because...we too bought in Eagles Nest. I thought for sure we would end up in Carmel, but we just couldn't cost justify the 60-100K difference for the exact same house, literally (Bridgewater and Legacy are building the same Ryland homes). Due to the weather they haven't broken ground yet, but we still are anticipating a July close. Looks like we'll be neighbors!

And I read that article. That doesn't have anything to do with Eagle's Nest. That article refers to houses not being able to be built on that property (which is further north of Eagle's Nest) due to the contamination that the junk yard caused to the ground there over the years....

Yes, but the concern was really what it meant for long term property value. What WILL be built there? Ultimately we decided that Paul Schoopman would just sit on the property until the contamination clears and build then. What they will pay over that period in property taxes will be nothing compared to the value of that land 20-30 years from now.

We won't be in until July at the earliest. We are still waiting for them to start building. We have a meeting with our construction supervisor next week.

We are moving to Indy in January and wanted to move to Zionsville. We noticed that prices for Eagle's Nest were much lower than the rest of the town. Found this discussion. Any updates on if there is a catch of some sort? It seemed to good to be true. Would appreciate knowing more.

No catch really other than Eagles Nest is technically in Whitestown. Now, does this matter to you? Chances are, no, not really. Eagles Nest has Zionsville schools (ZCS), and a Zionsville address (this just means the Zionsville postal services handles mail delivery here). Whitestown is a very fast growing community, fastest in Indiana in-fact, and it is very affordable. It has very quick access to downtown Indianapolis, and is about 20 minutes away from north-side shopping at Keystone or Castleton. We love it here, and if you want a great realtor let me know as our friends in the neighborhood are the best. If you are new to the area it's hard to beat since the neighborhood does so many things together. It's been wonderful for us (we're not from here either), and we have made great friends in the community. If you have school age children Eagles Nest is a no brainer.
