I'm a city parent. Your best bet for IPS are the choice schools. I know parents (and teachers) of choice school kids, parents of charter school kids, parents of homeschool kids, and parents of private school kids. It takes all kinds, and can be done. I'm not saying navigating city schools are for everyone, but it can be done.

And I'm honestly so sick of hearing about the "Southern Woman" from guys. It always comes off to me as a guy that prefers a woman to be subservient to him and his needs. I personally prefer a woman who challenges me and thinks for herself. They also are definitely not better looking, but that is just an opinion. I personally haven't seen better looking people than I have since moving to California. Well, other than Toronto, Canada oddly enough.
They are very différent clearly you don't know anything about the cities You mentioned. For starters according to Census data 2016 Atlanta has 5.78 million People, Charlotte - 2.47 mil. , Nashville - 1.86 mil, Indianapolis - 2 mil, Columbus - 2 mil, Cincinatti - 2.16 mil.. You can already see the similarities between he midwest (eastern plains) you mentioned and the diference in the Southern cities. (Atlanta is mire than 3 times as big as Nashville) Atlanta is known to the world as the Hip Hop capital, black Culture and History vía Martín Luther King Jr. and so much more. Nashville Is known for country music and much more, Charlotte has racing and is more similar actually to the midwestern cities you mentioned except for It Having Southern People. Indianapolis is known for racing (Indy 500 & Brickyard 400) and Industrial Factories, as well as Cincinatti as well as Columbus. Look I'm not saying these places are not fun to Visit but let's be honest they are similar. I Live in Indianapolis and go to Cinci and Columbus often. I'm originally from the South, Memphis to be exact which is deiffrent from the Other cities we mentioned as New Orleans! Catch my Drift!

I noticed this from the main page and was curious. First, Ohio is not a Plains state. If you are interested in what is considered Plains states, they are as follows: North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas panhandle, and if you truly want to go "eastern" you could add Missouri and Iowa.

Secondly, you clearly don't know anything about Columbus and Cincinnati. You can't even spell Cincinnati correctly. Columbus is far from being known for its factories. Columbus is more on par with Nashville or Austin than it is Pittsburgh or Detroit, even Memphis if you want to go that route. Cincinnati is more old school, but is known for the major Fortune 500 companies that make up the city's economy versus the factories back in the day of Pittsburgh and Detroit. Cincinnati was not reliant on one industry like those two. I am going to bet you're like a lot of people on City Data and claim to have gone to places "often" just to prove your point. For those of us that actually live in the areas, it's easy to see who "doesn't know anything about the cities you mentioned."

How is Memphis anything like Atlanta or Nashville? Memphis is in sad shape and doing very little to better itself. Probably one of the more depressing river cities anywhere.

I am not really interested in jumping in on a back and forth................but I went to Cincinnati twice this fall after not having been to Cincinnati in a long time. I am very impressed with how different OTR and the riverfront felt from the last time I had visited. In some respects Cincy is way ahead of Indy, and some respects it isn't. Both are fine cities with strengths and weaknesses.

I never visited in-depth much, but over the last two decades, I've seen how Cincinnati has grown in certain areas of their city. I visited a street view site and was shocked at how OTR has changed, with very popular places along that part of Vine Street. Went there when I was twenty or so to the Warehouse, some sort of club. There were drug dealers out and some guy across the street at the Kroger threw a glass bottle against the wall. I also checked out IKEA/Jungle Jim's and the downtown riverfront/Newport area as well.

I think most metro areas with around 1M people are doing the same thing Cincinnati and Indy are doing. They are investing in both their urban cores and in the surrounding suburban areas. If the temps moderate over the next few weeks I'm hoping to go down to Cincinnati for some day hiking and maybe check out the city somewhat.

I’m moving to Indy and it’s 76 here today. Never driven in snow AT ALL - and I have a rear wheel drive performance car. I’m genuinely scared of the winter and lack of sun. I’m not scared of the people or food (already discovered Wannamakers the Ordinary -pizza rocks and staff was nice). maybe some people need too much to be happy or appreciative or they keep comparing it to their home and set themselves up for unhappiness of the current situation. All I hope I will need is a good grocery store and Home Depot and an awesome grill outside. I guess it’s about making the best of wherever you are. By the way, southern people rock. I’m southern and not fake at all! If I “bless your heart” then you will know instantly if I mean it or did it for lack of anything nice to say (muahh haha ha). I’ll be the new chick in the neighborhood grilling in 20 degree weather because I’m stubborn like that and probably sliding down the driveway with a shovel or snowblower- laughing my own butt off for my clumsiness. Some southerners are fake but that’s everywhere just like being a butthole is just as universal.

Don't worry about it at all. Me and most of my family were born and raised in the Indy metro area. Everyone had a sports car at some point, some even with rear wheel drive. It isn't the snow that bothers me with our winters, it is the temps which can get very cold. The older I get, the more I dread the temps. Even the temps right now are starting to get to me. I swear the skin around my hands is getting thinner as I get older, because they dry out, crack, and bleed. The last few years I've really had to get more active in using lotion to keep them from hurting.

What I've never understood is the issue with lack of sun. It isn't like Alaska here. There is sunlight, but the sun itself might be blocked by clouds. I'm not a big fan of brightness, so maybe that is why I like overcast days like today. I laugh at SAD, seasonal affection disorder. Sounds like another gimmick to push meds by big pharma. If a change in seasons was that detrimental to someone, why would you stay? I guess it is possible for some to be miserable due to the lack of bright, sunny days, but it just seems odd to me.

I'm a native NYer living in Fort Wayne and I adore it. It is the fifth state I have lived in including 23 years in Palm Beach FL.

No it isn't a cosmopolitan city. If one comes to a state like IN then complains about its provincialism they are a fool; it's like going to a Golden Corral and complaining it isn't Lutece.

I love it here; I spent 3 hellish years in small town NC and loathed Southern culture and Southerners in general; they take silly small talk and dumb jokes to a nauseating extreme. What they call hospitality is really just making 3rd grade level jokes to cashiers and cliched remarks to strangers followed by a forced giggle. It's as though they are so desperate to speak to a stranger that any level of inane convo is better than not speaking.

I think the weather is fabulous here in IN; four distinct seasons, I am in the heart of the city and streets are cleared pronto after a snow, fall is deliciously cool and dry and summer is not too hot nor humid. People are simple and easygoing but not nosy nor sickly fake sweet like they were in NC.

Just chiming in with some INDIANA love.

Get a set of winter tires, mounted on wheels, from Tire Rack. Continental tires + steel rims will set you back around $800 for a set of 4.
