Hi, I'm following my husband to Indianapolis July 1st. His job is in Indy, but I need guidance to know which hospital to work for/apply to. I am a Med-Surg Telemetry RN.
I see many hospitals on the map and on Indeed.com. I just want to be happy when I work. Any recommendations from other RN's out there for me???

Another thing to consider is whether or not you want to work at a teaching hospital.

IU Medical Center is just west of downtown, and has a lot of different hospitals that make up the whole center. You also have Methodist Hospital downtown as well, which is well known for its trauma care.

The surrounding areas have a number of suburban hospitals as well, so there are plenty to choose from.

That being said, that last people I knew in the health care profession (a nurse and a respiratory therapist) both said that jobs were scarce and things were very competitive. That may not be the case in your area of specialty.

You should be more specific about the area you expect to live in so you can get more detailed responses.

MortonR, Hi ! we are looking either to rent or buy in the Fishers, Carmel area. Not much for rent in Carmel. I gather from the realtor that this is area is mainly homes for sale. Fishers has more to offer in the way of rentals, but could you estimate a commuting time into Indianapolis?
I am job searching from Pittsburgh to get an idea of whats out there for RN's in Indy. Seems like there are jobs a plenty, but when I read the hospital/surgi center reviews, alot of nurses hate their jobs...
Thankyou for the advice...

Plenty of RN jobs. Make no mistake, hospitals are a business and from what I've heard, really aren't employee oriented which isn't unlike the majority of US businesses these days. The Mrs is in St. V's network and she really likes it. I've heard horror stories about IU Health and that's coming from the employees both medical and non medical. No idea about working conditions with St. Francis or Community but St. F's does have excellent patient care from my experience.

Estimating a trip from home to work when it's a hospital can be very tricky. For instance in Community network, you can shift between Community North, East and South with CN and CE being closest to Carmel/Fishers. CS is a nice little drive down 465 to 65 to County Line Road heading west to 31. IU Health you could be in Carmel or downtown. St. Francis you can be on the south side or in Carmel. St. V's are pretty close to each other anyway and then there's the donut county hospital networks. Find a hospital and you can narrow down your commute as to what to expect.

St. Vincent's announced restructuring and layoffs that will take place by June 30th. IU Health has plans to cut $1 billion in expenses over the next four years which will most likely include staff reductions.
