Indeed. I love Indy because it's nothing like Chicago. Sure, Chicago is fun to visit, and I go back and visit family...but am I ever glad to get back home to Indy. I love Indy because it is a conservative area. People here are pretty much patriotic and are family oriented. All good stuff, in my opinion.

I have known people to move back up to Chicago after moving here. They found that they missed it up there more than they thought. So, they moved back. Great. Less traffic here.

Default Travel vs being surrounded by culture

I'm not talking about driving to Chicago.

I'm talking about making multiple trips to Europe and South America. 19 different countries.

Indianapolis was so cheap that the money I WASN'T spending on housing and transportation was going toward traveling overseas.

While you were making multiple trips to Chicago to see works of art in museums, I was going to the countries where those works originated and seeing works by the same artists in their natural setting.

Oh, and I still made plenty of trips to Chicago to enjoy the sights that city has to offer.
Touche that is a MAJOR benefit of living in Indiana. My family and I took roadtrips/plane trips to a bunch of different places from here: Vegas, Orlando, Chicago (95% of my family lives there), Ohio, Atlanta, Savannah, etc.

+1 for Indy

CoonMoon, that's a good question as to why Indiana likes being stupid. I lived in Indiana my entire life and I know for a fact that I haven't been treated very fairly. You are right about the state law makers, too. They aren't much good for anything and if you have a problem and concern, they don't seem to care in which I've tried to address my concerns alot of times and still trying, but with no luck or real solution to the problem.

A wild guess here, but maybe because its the capital city? I think capital cities have a different set of rules they have to abide by that other cities don't, especially on roads and transportation issues of the capital city. I think the reason being for that is because capital cities belong to the entire state, not just the residents of the capital city.

In every state, municipalities are creations of the state and are subordinate to the state. Some states allow more home rule than others. Indiana doesn't allow as much.

I'd say most people feel like you do in that politicians are unresponsive/divorced from the common people.
