Hello all-

I am looking in the indianapolis area for apartments that allow german shepherds? I have run into a lot of breed restrictions on them. My fiance finds out his pilot base in the next couple weeks and it looks like will be in Indianapolis or Columbus, Ohio so I am trying to find as many places that will allow our pup as I can so when we find out I can call quickly for availability!

Any advice is helpful- or any particular areas of the city that are good to live in!

Thanks!

This does not directly answer your question...but:

1) Private landlords are usually your best bet. Especially if your dog is well behaved and you can prove this by allowing the landlord to meet your dog.

2) Put together a pet resume. References from previous landlords regarding dog, letters of rec from vet, any training your dog has completed, immunization records, etc.

3) If it is a managed company with a strict policy, I suggest making sure all of your pet's paperwork at the vet says shepherd or shepherd mix or something similar going forward (perhaps your vet will even let you "correct" your paperwork to reflect your dogs actual breed and you can provide this paperwork to the leasing company). Look up pictures of Belgian Shepherds and Dutch Shepherds...maybe your dog isn't a GSD...maybe it is just a Belgian Shepherd mix?! Of course I am not advising that you lie or commit fraud...maybe you are just currently mistaken about your dogs actual breed
