You may want to consider Westfield. Newer homes are more reasonably priced than other places in Hamilton County and the schools are shopping and dining amenities are very good. It may seem like a long trip from downtown now, but construction is ongoing to make Meridian St (Hwy 31), north of 465, a non-stop freeway. That will make the drive to the downtown area much faster and less congested. It has been a thriving/growing community for the last 10-15 years now and because of that, taxes are staying in check while home values are increasing. If you're going to be starting a family, I would strongly suggest really studying about the area school districts.

We moved to the Indy area almost 8 years ago from Colorado, and we really love Hamilton County. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else here. Because we've had possibly the worst winter in Indy's history, I might also add that roads in Hamilton County are really maintained well. Unfortunately, much of Indy can't say the same.

Good luck.

I agree with Eddyline! Downtown Indy has so much to offer. Enjoy this time together. Average homeowners stay in their homes for only 5-7 years. Of course, you want to think about resale value. There are some great neighborhoods, close to shopping and entertainment, and also easy access to IUPUI and the State Capitol. Some popular ones include Cottage Home, Fletcher Place, and Woodruff Place.
