Just want to get a feel for what everyone's bill has been like this winter. I was away for 1/4 of Dec and 3/4 of Jan, yet my bill for these 2 months went up by 40% compared to last year. While away, my thermostat was set to 60 and all power strips were turned off, so the only electricity usage would have been the minimally set heat. I'm surprised by the sharp increase.

This is why I enrolled in the budget plan. I was sick of the huge fluctuation from summer to winter and trying to guess how high my bill would be each month. I prefer to pay the same thing every month.

Well, in the last 2 years, my winter bill was about the same as my summer bill. Yeah, this winter was colder, but I was also gone more, so I thought they should at least cancel out.

I have a heat pump which is demanding a lot from the auxiliary (electric) back up because of the cold temps. Also the price of KWH is increasing every year so I always look at my KWH usage when making comparisons from year to year. Im using about .25 to .50 percent more Ks this year than last. I called the guy who services my HP and he said that some peoples usage is up as much as 3 Xs. So the HP is killing me during these extreme temps but I make up for it during times of more mild temps

You all really need the ability to choose among providers as we have here in IL. The power company provides the lines and maintenance and there is a charge for that, but we can also choose who we want as the supplier for the electricity itself. My bill went down significantly when the city switched us over to a lower priced supplier last year.

My home is all-electric and the bill I just received was $100 higher than I have ever had before.
I'm not complaining though because we never lost power at all, and I know several people who did, during sub-zero days.

I have I&M before any of my usage is added to the bill there are $20-$25 worth of other charges on there. All these extra charges are partly causing the bills to rise plus didn't they lose some kind of federal subsidy last year? They increased their rate structures and you know it will never come back down.

I'm reviving this thread because I would love to have actual costs...what was your bill for how much space?

I like that there's an averaging program but still...got any actuals?
