Downtown Chicago does not even come close to rivaling Manhattan. Manhattan is in a complete class of its own. When you're in downtown Chicago, you feel like you're in a major city. When you're in Manhattan, you feel like you are in the hub of the world. There is nothing in downtown Chicago that approaches the vibe one gets from walking a busy Midtown Manhattan street in the afternoon.

I understand why some people prefer Chicago because for some people, smaller is better. But preferences aside (and give me NYC any day of the week), Manhattan is much much much busier and important than downtown Chicago could ever be. Manhattan is in many cases the world hub of business/media/finance/culture/fashion/art/entertainment/etc,etc,etc.

Chicagoans will always have that chip on their shoulder that they arent as great as NYC.
In reality of Chicagoans were smart they would embrace themselves and stop trying to be the next New York and clean up the rampart crime and corruption in the city.
NYC is the largest city in the US yet it ranks 3rd in corruption. we can take a WILD guess who scored #1 and #2 is LA.
