Probably, yeah, at least for Midwest big cities. Not too many tourists in places like Columbus.

And even Chicago isn't that big of a draw compared to the coastal cities. Chicago isn't as well known as the NYC, Miami, LA, SF type cities, at least for leisure tourists. They tend to get more local tourists than international visitors.

Only Orlando and New York top Chicago as America's most visited cities.

And that's due to the Mouse. Otherwise Orlando is a hellish pit.

Now I know you're just trolling.

I had a job offer in Orlando a few years ago and spent a week there. It was miserable and I couldn't imagine living there.

There are a few cities in Florida that I like but Orlando is awful.

People rarely get outside of the Mouse when they're visiting, and as a result don't get the "seamy underbelly" view of the area. Granted, there are some nice parts like Celebration, but those are vey inclusive and big bucks. Orlando proper is pretty rough and tumble.

Being in the interior, Orlando doesn't get the sea breezes like the coastal areas do, so the summers are frighteningly hot. Typical summer temperatures are well into the 90s on a daily basis, with high humidity. The coastal areas never get as hot and cool off in the evenings due to the sea breezes. Near daily thunderstorms in the afternoons, too.

It's not pretty when you pull back the curtain.

In other words, I'm telling the truth, you don't like the truth, so you resort to silly personal attacks.

No, you just made that up.

And we aren't talking about "visited" cities; that's a function of city size and has nothing to do with leisure tourism. We were talking about tourists only, and specifically tourists visiting from afar.

Chicago is barely in the top 10 in terms of international visitors (and that includes business visitors, the leisure numbers would be much lower) and cannot be compared to NYC, DC, Miami, Vegas, LA, SF, etc. in terms of international recognition as a vacation center.

Despite all the personal insults, crazy claims and ridiculous postings in this thread, the fact remains that the Midwest generally isn't on the radar for tourism. People need to deal with it, instead of mindlessly attacking the messenger.

So DC just ahead of Chicago but can't be compared? Next, when did visitors only mean international? To most us markets a tourist is someone travelling from approx 2 hours out. Cities don't care where they come from, just the money they bring with them to spend.

Yeah ... I just pulled it out of my rear end. Dude, tourism is tourism. It doesn't matter where the visitors come from. The vast majority of people visiting NYC aren't international travelers. You ought to stop the madness.
