Indianapolis doesn't look that bad to me when streetviewing the bad areas and streets which were mentioned in this thread. It looks a little rough here and there but it doesn't look nearly as bad as Detroit, Camden, or Baltimore.

Even though the bad areas may not be truly bottom of the barrel in a national scale, would you want to live in them?

The point is that Indianapolis isn't nearly as bad as your portrayal. I'll wager that there are people who wouldn't want to reside in the area where you live.

Idk from 5 years ago, but I think Indy is going to decline faster than other similar cities based on dependance of sports. Indy seems to have focused too heavily on new and better sports instead of broken schools and infrastructure (not bashing indy or colts so everyone calm down) but we can finance our future for sports... lol. In Indys defense, I think several Ohio cities did this too and failed. For the most part I love the people f Indy. I hope for a better time but think its on the decline. There is nothing here. Worldwide racing is a dying (and never coming back) sport (what a gas guzzling waste)

I just don't understand this argument. The reason Indianapolis has a better downtown than any city in Ohio (and I'm honestly not trying to bash Ohio) is because it invested so heavily in sports, and succeeded. If it wasn't for sports, there's a decent shot that there wouldn't have ever been a renaissance on Mass Ave or in Fountain Square. There is nearly a 100% chance that there would be no Circle Centre Mall. I think that schools and infrastructure need significant investment too, but I don't think you can blame that lack of investment on sports.

Certainly the Indy area has not won many points in my book for having friendly drivers. I went to Castleton mall 2 weeks ago, and it is horribly planned over there, but what really annoyed me is the way people were driving; no turn signals, people weaving in and out of lanes, people backing up out of parking spots without looking, and just utterly rude drivers. A pedestrian was crossing in front of me, so I obviously stopped for them and next thing I know some surely person was honking at me. What, do you want me to run this woman over? In another instance I came to a stop sign where the cross traffic did not stop, so I was waiting for an opening in the cross traffic so I could turn, well once again an idiot was honking behind me. Should I drive out into the middle of traffic? It is inane.

Default Indy drivers are polite generally

If you want to see rude drivers come to Chicago, particularly the northwest side (HIP mall area particularly).

Nothing like a bunch of 25-35 yr old Eastern European guys in Porsches and Mercedes who think they own the road. One of these guys is one of my best friends but I would not want to have to share the road with him (Bulgarian with turbo charged Porsche SUV).

I have encountered a few rude drivers in Indy, usually in Carmel and other north side areas but generally people are pretty polite.

I've honestly never experienced what you just described. Maybe you have bad luck? Anywhere is going to have a handful of idiot drivers. There are a lot of people that don't use turn signals, but there are the same people that don't use turn signals in the small town that I'm from, too, and everywhere across the country. I actually think drivers in Indy, especially on the interstates, are much saner than in places like Chicago. I very rarely see people flying back and forth between lanes or flying across 3 or 4 lanes of traffic at a time here in Indy. My wife is from New Jersey and she still sometimes feels weird that she doesn't hear people honking more, especially when we're downtown.

Coming from the South, I've never seen people lay on the horns like they do in Indy. These are the rudest drivers I've ever seen. I was in Tampa about six weeks ago and after all the talk about bad FL drivers, they are a breeze compared to Indiana.
