Hello. I am new to area but wanted to ask newer opinions on subject of private schools and recommendations. I have searched and toured and muchto my dismay a lot seem a little focused on the sports side (not why we are seeking private school and ironically many highly regarded schools are dropping sports). We also have noted while Indy seems to have a lot of options (for city size) not a lot of advances seen superficially that have left us confident after tour. We have viewed all major except Park Tudor and Orchard (we plan to visit soon). We don't have a religious preference, just want strong curricula. And focused area (not sports- US is too far behind in academics!)

I'd say the parochial schools in Indy, particularly the Catholic schools, do a pretty good job at both academics and athletics. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Depending on what level of school, check out University High School in Carmel. It's a non-religious affiliated college prep private school that focuses on academics. They do have some sports teams but it's not even close to the focus. Students go there because they want to go to college. They can earn college credit from some of the courses and 100% of their students are admitted to college. It is a small school, less than 300 students with about a 9 to 1 student to teacher ratio so I'm not sure how competitive it is to get in. They do have an open house coming up this weekend. Of course, this isn't much help if you're looking for elementary school level.

I would also recommend University HS, especially if you live in Carmel.
