Hi folks, I will be relocating to Noblesville,IN from Boston within two weeks due to company relocation. I am kind of running on a tight schedule for my apartment hunting. Is Noblesville a good place to move-in? (I will be more focus on its crime and education rating since I have a 2-year-old boy). Or should I move-in to other cities around Noblesville, like Carmel or Fishers? Any input will be appreciated....

Noblesville is older than Carmel or Fishers but that's about it. It's not as affluent as Carmel but just as nice as Fishers. It has a beautiful historic courthouse square in its downtown. Schools are just as good as Fishers and Carmel. Even though it's older, it has a LOT of new development as well, especially on its outskirts. It also covers a massive amount of land, especially from west to east (Gray Rd all the way east to I-69/Campus Pkwy). Outside the downtown area, the city is very spread out. Parts of the western side would be closer to many places in Carmel than in Noblesville, such as closer to Clay Terrace and Greyhound Pass in Carmel than to Hamilton Town Center in Noblesville for shopping and dining. Some parts will be closer to Geist Reservoir in Fishers/Indianapolis than to Morse Reservoir in Noblesville/Cicero. Long story short, Noblesville is very spread out and there are fast amounts of open land. Crime is no worse than the other northside suburbs, which is to say it's very low. Schools, as I mentioned, are right up there with the rest of the north side. I have a 2-year-old and a 1-year-old and while we live in Fishers now (really just south of the Fishers/Noblesville line), I'd have no problem moving to Noblesville if we found a house we loved there.

Also curious if you will be working in Noblesville or elsewhere. The commute to downtown Indy, while done by many, can be 45 minutes or more one way. I assume you will be working in or around Noblesville if that's where you've narrowed your search to.

Can't really go too wrong in the whole of North/Northeast suburbs area of Indianapolis. Rent can be higher than other areas of Indianapolis, but the trade off is less crime (although not void of crime) and more high end shopping and things to do. Carmel tends to get labeled as more snooty than the other areas, but I have found that to be, for the most part, not true. Also Carmel has really tried to build itself into an urban suburb with many areas that are walkable. Fishers and Noblesville are much less walkable, needing a car to get virtually anywhere.

And the commute to Indy can be brutal more often than not, but not as brutal as Boston from what I have heard.

Don't rush into anything. Comes here and check it out, see a lot of different apartments. If that means a little longer in a hotel or a friends place, so be in, in the long run you are better off.

what type of neighborhood do you want

If you're working in Noblesville and want a more rural feel, the north side of Noblesville going up to Morse Reservoir is kind of out of the hustle and bustle of the suburbs

Yeah, not as brutal since we aren't permitted to drive the shoulders during rush like they can in Mass. (common back ups due to merging traffic accidents near the exit ramps with shoulder and exit ramp traffic competiting for the same space) The congestion on I-95,I-93,Mass Turnpike(I-90), "the braintree split" and US 3 makes I-69 look easy during rush.
