I find it an oversized, poor rendition of various architectural styles--none of which hits the mark. I give it a point for pseudo-creativity, but deduct many more points for execution. It looks like a poor man's version of something one would find in Disney World.

I hated it the first time I saw it, and still hate it.

What about the Village of West Clay? Should we have a poll for that area, too?

No poll necessary. If you like VOWC, live there. If you don't like VOWC, don't live there.

There's your poll.

I agree that there is a faux element to the architecture, but count me as being a fan. To me, it's a bit like what Kansas City's Country Club district may have been like during its first few years (back in the '20s). People may have decried its faux Spanish style architecture then too, but it's certainly matured well and is very widely appreciated now.
I agree that the key is to allow the area to grow in an organic manner, with different architects and complimentary, but not identical styles. The building materials look to be of high quality ( not EFIS), so I appreciate the attention to detail and walkable design. The key will be how the district grows and evolves.

I'm not going to knock Carmel for trying to make better improvements. City Center is much better than the old Carmel with hardly nothing. The traditional style may not be a hundred years old right now but a hundred years from now it will be (that's if they don't demo the place). I would like to see more of this kind of development (traditional or futuristic) around the metro area. A strip mall here and a strip mall over there bordered by the same corporate chain stuff is sometimes too repetitive and boring. There are only so many Apple Bees and Walmarts you can run into. Outside of downtown Indy, Carmel, Columbus and Nashville we should have more unique development themes. Avon and Brownsburg please take note.

Absolutely. It just needs to be aged like fine wine

If the copper on the roof hasn't turned green yet it's still young.

That's a good point as well. It is better than the stuff it's replacing, which are empty warehouses and strip malls with acres of parking.
