I'm finally moving back to Indy after a decade! I always missed it and lived in Chicago. How is Indy area different? From what I've heard, downtown is a lot better, but Castleton and broad ripple have increased crime and are less desirable?

Well, you wont believe the building going on downtown and even in BR. Malls all over are having problems with maybe Keystone at the Crossing being the exception. Mass Ave downtown is a hot place to be and very busy on nice nights and holidays. Prices downtown are sky high both for purchase and rental. A new 20+ story apartment building is going up at Market Street next to the new Cummins building. Really nice transportation center next to the City County building that has all the buses come to a central point for transfers. Very up to date with enclosed waiting area.

Loads of new fitness places including a new City View YMCA with pools downtown.

So many restaurants of all kinds. They are going in and out of business fast however. Loads of creativity. Small enough that, if you are interested, you can get to know the owners and chefs.

Husband said having Amazon fulfillment centers (5 or more) in central Indiana gets incredible fast service.

New airport that is fantastic. Trying to get more nonstop flights.

Cons: crime in recognized areas seems much worse. Of course, comparing it to Chicago, I dont know. Schools still have issues in the city. Lots of good ideas but not across the board. Bus system still small for the physical size of the city.

Lived here 40+ years and the last 10 years have seen huge changes.

Welcome back!
I think the trend has been that a lot of people have moved back to downtown. There for awhile people were moving out into the suburbs, especially north of Indy. There is now a trend of New condos going in downtown a lot of them have a modern flare to them. Which if you love old homes you probably will not like them.
Downtown has much to offer now! My fiancé is from California and he is so surprised at how clean our city is. I guess other cities are pretty dirty, we are spoiled!!
We are such an overlooked state and city though. I think the more people that come here like it though, but mostly are attracted to how inexpensive it is to live here!
