Friends,

I am moving to Indianapolis from Dallas and looking for information on good and safe areas to live in with family. Have a 6 yr old son so looking for suggestion on apartment names around good schools. Will appreciate if someone can share any good elementary school names as well. My office will be in downtown so looking at a place which is reasonable to commute. Please share your experience and recommendation.

Thanks

You will have to share your budget to get specific apartment names and what you consider to be a reasonable commute. I might consider a reasonable commute 45 minutes. You might consider a reasonable commute to be 15 minutes.

For good schools you will probably need/want to consider the suburbs. In general IPS schools won't get you what you want.

I moved from Dallas almost 4 years ago to Indy - it has been a fantastic move. I wasn't able to visit until we got here, but searching online was a big help. When you've narrowed it down, folks on this forum were a really big help.

I KNOW Dallas traffic! My office is on the north side of Indy so I chose an apartment up this way. It's really true though - what is your idea of a "commute"? Personally, I absolutely loved living at North Haven of Carmel. It's located at 96th and Gray Road. It was great and when we bought a house last summer, it was the first time I was ever sad to leave an apartment complex.

Of course, if you want to live closer to your job, many other folks here will be able to help.

Good luck!
