I used to drive Greenwood to Rolls-Royce at Tibbs Ave/Raymond. Took me 45 minutes from home to my desk. Longer going home. If there was road construction, it took longer. That was 12-29 years ago. If someone is in the part of Greenwood close to I65, it would go faster. I was just west of 135, and took it up to work. Traffic in and out of Greenwood and Center Grove is now very heavy.

If you enjoy the city of Bloomington, then you're not too old to live there. Bloomington's population is close to 90,000. That's large enough city that it's not a one-horse town. Bloomington is big enough that there are other things there besides the college. Don't let IU stop you from moving to Bloomington if that's where you want to live.

If Bloomington had about the same population as Oxford Ohio it would make sense for an older person not to move there. Actually, there should be a picture of Oxford, Ohio next to the words "college town" in the dictionary. Towns can't get much more "college town" status than Oxford.

Maybe I misunderstood and he meant an hour per day.

Depending on where "downtown" and what part of Greenwood, I could see it taking close to an hour. Greenwood is far south of the 465 loop. It's not like the north side where you exit, and you are in Carmel or Hamilton county. Center grove is 13 miles down 31 from the 465 exit. (and that's just to turn off of 31)

Center Grove is not Greenwood. Again, the devil is in the details. What they might be calling Greenwood could very well be someplace else - like Morgantown, for example.

He lives in downtown proper and works at a hospital. I don't remember which one. I can't think of a reason he'd lie about his commute. As I said, maybe he said he commuted an hour a day.

The only hospitals I know are the one at a County Line west of 31 and the one over by 65 off of Emerson.

Maybe he means “total” commute time as in round trip. That would make a lot more sense.

You might want to consider taking a look around Bloomington before making such an assessment. There around 10K employed at IU and another 10K in graduate/post graduate studies, a great many of whom are bound to be over the age of 30.

I lived in Greenwood, but our children attended Center Grove schools. Yes, we paid Greenwood city taxes; other residents of Center Grove only paid county taxes. We had Greenwood police, the Greenwood mayor. We lived in the far western edge of Greenwood.

I pointed out Center Grove as well as Greenwood, because all the north-south roads to Indianapolis have very heavy traffic. SR37, Bluff, 135, I-65. I tried every combination getting into work.

135 and Whiteland Road (far south) is still Greenwood.
