It seems like every year Indy shuts down multiple major highways that don’t seem to need work done for weeks. They just had 70 shut down, and now for the next month a large section of 465 will be shut down. I lived in Chicago for yearrs and they never just shut down highways for work.

It happens around here often as well. They generally use horrible materials that don’t hold up very well either. Job security... Quality of roads is not a strong point at all in this state.

So you would prefer they not close it down for a week or 2 and instead do it the old fashioned way like in Chicago? How long has the Jane Byrn Interchange been under construction? 5 years? Ill take a road being shut down for 2 weeks over 5 years of delays and construction anytime.

Good point I guess.

I'm not gonna lie, when I have had to go to Florida I thought...maybe I'll just take the long way around Indiana. 65 is such a terribell freeway and yes the roads around indy suck too.

Indiana just doesn’t seem to be good with roads. All the potholes in Indy going un repaired, I69 construction has been a disaster, constant highway shutdowns.

Be grateful you're not in my neck of the woods (Los Angeles/Orange County, CA). Seems like the widening project on I-5 in my general area has been going on forever, so I looked it up. I found an article from March, 2012 which references the "groundbreaking" in the prior year. Scheduled completion date was sometime in 2016. Well, here we are in mid-2019, and while progress has certainly been made, things still appear to be years away from being completed. And can you imagine the cost overruns??? And don't for a minute think that the regular roads are being well maintained while all the freeway re-construction is going on. I say count your blessings!

I was surprised by the repaving on I-69 between 465 and 37 the last couple weekends that had it down to 1 lane. They just widened and rebuilt that stretch 3 or 4 years ago. I get its one of the busiest stretches in the city but does it really need to be repaved that often?

I don't know why Indy has such a massive problem with roads.

I used to work on the northside and regularly commuted down College and on 465 from Michigan to 69 interchange. The roads, by and large, were awful. I had three flats in the three years I lived there, and haven't had one since I left the state.

I can understand a road closure if they actually fixed the roads. At best, they seem to stopgap a problem, then the thing crumbles a few years later and it's back to square one.
