Ideal location (Indianapolis, Terre Haute, Plainfield: houses, private schools, college)

My wife is working in Indy and I'm working in Terre Haute. What would be an ideal location for both of us to commute, and for us to live with our three kids?

Greencastle is about 35 to 40 miles from Downtown Indianapolis and Downtown Terre Haute and closer than that from the edge of each metro on Interstate 70. It has about 10,000 people living there and seems to be real nice town with a small Methodist college. That's about all the information I know for sure about Greencastle.

Greencastle would work, but I'd consider any future changes in your job. If your Terre Haute job is secure, then you might find a better housing costs in the Greencastle and surrounding areas. Also, the college in Greencastle is having financial issues like many similar sized smaller, private schools. If the college goes under, I'm not sure what that means for the town, housing values, etc., just something to keep in mind.

If your job isn't very secure, or you think you might be changing careers in the next handful of years, I'd strongly recommend that you be the one to take on a longer commute and move closer to the western suburbs of Indy. I'd also suggest looking at being somewhat close to an I-70 interchange (within say five miles). You might want to consider looking near/around the exit 59 interchange. This is just north of the small town of Monrovia. It is starting to have a growth phase though, with huge inventory warehouses being built near the interchange. There is also a newer vinyl village type housing addition just south of the interchange.

This location puts you a couple of miles west of Mooresville and maybe five to seven miles from all areas of Plainfield.

Pretty much anywhere along I-70 west of Indianapolis. More importantly, what part of Indianapolis is the wife working in? That would have some bearing on where i would look. If she's downtown or on the west side, then my original suggestion stands. If she's on the east side or to the north or south, there might be better choices.

There are numerous small/rural communities along the I-70 corridor that would be good places to live.
