Can anyone tell me about this airport? There are some really nice neighborhoods in Zionsville, as well as an elementary school, that look like they are less than 2 miles due south of the runway.

What do you need to know? It's a fairly small FBO used by private pilots and some business aircraft.

I assume the concern is noise. The airport does have enough traffic for this to be a concern. Any neighborhood located 2 miles out, along the extended centerline of a runway, is going to be subject to noise.

Yeah, the airport has very similar in activity to Johnson County Executive airport in Johnson County, KS- a very similar suburban county to Hamilton County, IN.

Yes, low-flying planes & the potential for crashes into residential areas are my concerns. Accidents are rare, but they happen.

General small-plane noise is not as much of a concern if it's not constant. We're about 15 miles out from LAX and are used to jets flying over -- sometimes kinda low -- not to mention all the loud low-flying helicopters either chasing bad guys or the news/traffic 'copters, so anything less than that will be an improvement. But 2 miles seems really close! (Is it?)

Would you purchase a family home in a "neighborhood located 2 miles out, along the extended centerline of a runway" (as BLS2753 described)?

They're expanding, so whatever noise is there will get worse. Here's a study on it: https://www.zionsville-in.gov/566/In...-Airport-Study

I grew up less than 2 miles from the Eagle Creek Airport on the Westside of Indy for the first 18 years of my life. I lived on the Southside after college less than 1 mile from the Indy South Greenwood Airport. In comparison I'm sure there are less planes taking off from those locations compared to the Executive Airport. However, noise was never really much of a factor. We noticed more noise from the Indy International Airport 747 planes. I could just be forgetful, but I never remember any accidents. Occasionally we would notice a plane coming in or taking off if we were driving by, but we never noticed them from our house.

I highly doubt you would really notice this airport, especially if you are used to LAX.
