Home budget is probably important for us to know as that could price you in or out of certain communities.

Hospital wise I have no idea on how Indiana pay is compared to other states or even job opportunities. You have a significant amount of the population that's older so I would imagine its in high demand. Downtown Indy has 4 hospitals mostly centered at 10th and Indiana Avenue (VA Hsopital, Eskenazi, and Riley for Children) all clustered together. Methodist is about a mile away from those 3.

All 4 are fairly close to the interstate where you can get to most suburbs/communities within 30 min when not rush hour. Rush hour can make some of those commutes, depending on direction/construction, closer to an hour.

There are also several other hospitals closer to the suburbs like St Francis near Greenwood, Ascension St Vincent closer to Carmel/North Central area, IU North (Carmel), IU West (Avon), etc, etc. So plenty of hospitals if you can find one you like or that is hiring.

Really with all the hospital choices available you have your pick of communities to live in. Based on some of your requests I would definitely look at the Westside. Avon, Brownsburg, and Pike Township are fairly diverse, approx 30 min to downtown Indy/hospitals, and close to shopping and parks.

North east suburbs like Lawrence, Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern areas would be good for meeting most of your criteria, though traffic will be the worst in those areas.

I would also look in North Central High School district -- northern/central portion of Marion County once you get a little further from downtown. They have great schools, but also good diversity and socioeconomics and other things going for it. Many of the Marion County Township public school districts are pretty good and diverse. You start to get outside into the suburbs outside of Marion County and while the schools are still good, the diversity drops significantly. Crime will be worse in Marion County than suburbs, but many times the crimes that scare people away the most are between people that know each other not necessarily random acts.

Yep, like WestsideMac said, what's your home budget? I know the market in some of the more popular northern suburbs (fishers, etc.) is brutal currently (very low inventory, offers on homes way above asking price). A coworker just told me about their current experience trying to find a home in that area (just fyi).

I don't think Indy is as diverse as Atlanta, but there are certainly diverse areas. Most of the schools in the surrounding suburbs (outside of the 465 loop) are very good. I can't speak to the areas inside the loop since we live farther south of Indy.

Hamilton County is 88% white. The largest minority are Asians, at 5%. Blacks are less than 4%. If you want "a little bit" of diversity, Hamilton County will certainly fit that bill. Good luck.

Hamilton County generally experiences extremely low crime.

Carmel generally is about a 30-40 minute one-way drive to the main/central hospital area (Eskenazi, IU, Riley, VA, IU Health Methodist hospitals) near Downtown Indianapolis outside of morning and afternoon/evening rush hours.

Fishers generally is about a 30-35 minute one-way drive to the hospital complex near Downtown Indy outside of morning and afternoon/evening peak traffic hours.

Travel times may be longer during morning and afternoon/evening peak traffic times, especially if there may be any weather and/or traffic-related delays.

The Community hospitals (East, North, South), IU Health North, IU Health West, Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis, Ascension St. Vincent Carmel, Franciscan Health Indianapolis, and Franciscan Health Mooresville might also offer employment opportunities that you could look into.

Hamilton County is the most affluent county in the state. The communities within it also have very good schools. The county also is home to several hospitals including IU North, St Vincent - Carmel, Riverview, IU Saxony. Community North is just up the road from Hamilton County.

Avon and Brownsburg are pretty nice communities just west of Indianapolis, both have growing black populations/school enrollments. Avon and Brownsburg tend to be much cheaper than Zionsville, Carmel, Fishers, Westfield, Noblesville.
