I don't care what anybody says, Indy getting that bid is a great thing for this city. Particularly considering the gamble the city took with building that nice new expensive stadium banking on us getting it. The taxpayers would have gotten screwed again had we not got it. What am i saying, I'm sure the taxpayers will get screwed again, it just might not be as bad as it might have been! Anyone that lives here should be breathing a sigh of relief that we got it.

Oh yeah, and be PROUD that we got it. Indy may still not rank among the best cities in the world or the US to some, but things like this further proves to me that there is a little more to do here than just watch the corn grow and that it is not the worst place to be. This does not make us more comparable to NY or LA by any means, but this is a big deal for Indy and a step in the right direction. Together with the conventions, NCAA tournament, the world class Colts, and the great things IMS has done to bring more events to this city, these types of things are a big boost to this city in both publicity and economic values which further enable us to develop this city into something more than it is. I have lived in other cities as well, and am not so sure I will spend the rest of my life in this one, but I am proud of our cities abilities to do what we do for no more than what we are, or are percieved to be. I accept the great things that this city has to offer as well as accept it's faults (MASS PUBLIC TRANSIT ^%$#@!). Faults, now there is something that every world class city has, guess that puts us another step up!

After the first Colts Monday Night home game on a Halloween night (where they destroyed the Broncos) Frank Gifford and Dan Dierdorf visited the NFL commissioner's office. They told him to consider Indy for the next cold weather Superbowl because they had done such a bang up job for the Monday Night Game. I guess they looked at the RCA Dome (I think it was still the "Hoosier Dome") and it just wasn't big enough. I agree with Frank and Dan..........Indy will do it right. It will be Hoosier Hospitality at it's very best! I have talked with people who have attended Final Fours in Indy and they would like them to be held there yearly. The fact that people can stay indoors from hotel to the event is a massive plus.
Dallas will be a tough act to follow though. I will bet that they will try to do it up so big that they will try to lure the event there on a regular if not a yearly basis.
I am happy for the city and plan on being a volunteer of some fashion.

I was happy about it and I thought the Legacy Project at Arsenal Tech would be nice. The media however gave everyone the impression that the area around Tech was some sort of impoverished wasteland, in the process pretty much insulting everyone who lives in Woodruff Place, Holy Cross and Cottage homes. since most of my neighbors who live just south of Tech on Arsenal all live in 200-350 K houses we werent really amused about that and I am sure people in Woodruff or Cottage Homes, who just had a great home and garden tour BTW, werent happy either.

Maybe the media will eventually figure out the difference between Near Downown and "The Near Eastside", which actually when you think about it isnt that near at all.

But the good news is that its great for Tech, I guess that means more buses driving through our neighborhood since most of the kids round here are in private school.
