I have gathered the reasoning for houses on Indianapolis's eastside being so cheap is due to the high crime rate. Is this the same for the neighborhood west of downtown? Some of the old homes there are really cute and I don't know why there are so many homes for sale under $20,000. Are these insanely cheap home prices due to the high craime rate or are there other more significant factors?

Thanks in advance.

I fear you may be looking in the near south west side near Rilley Tar and Chemical. There was a series in the Indianapolis Star two years ago about the health and well being of that neighborhood. After the stories of how many residents suffered horrible cancerous deaths I would be surprised if they could give the houses away.

the West side inside 465 is pretty much ghetto. Especially 10th st and rockville rd. I think 10th st is like east wahington.
