I want to buy some Chinese food and materials, who can tell me are there any markets near university of indianapolis? The nearer, the better. And I hope the one has copious quantities of materials which can cook Chinese food. Thanks.

Asia Mart is a great place to go, but it's not particularly near U Indy. There are three locations in town though, I think.

There's Saraga International Grocery store near Lafayette x 38th St. As the name suggests, it's an international store, not just an asian market, but it's a huge store with a wide selection of goods, and a pretty extensive asian section with whole aisles each for Japanese, Chinese, Korean foods.

It's about ~20 min from UIndy though, heading north on I-65 for the majority of the drive.

Further south on Madison Avenue, at the intersection of Madison and Stop 11 (about 3 miles), is a small Asian market, though I think it caters more to Indian and Burmese. There might be one in Beech Grove; I knew there was one in the past. Apparently Saraga is opening a branch at this same location (Stop 11 and Madison) in the very near future.

I don't know if it is still there but we used to shop at one about 7800 E. 21st St. (Just west of Franklin Rd.)

There is a Chinese-owned Asian market, a small one, behind Castleton Square Mall. I forgot the name of that market. But it's located on 96th Street right across from Costco.

There is also Saraga, and I usually shop there for special Asian vegetables that local grocery stores don't sell. however, don't buy fish from there. My friend bought a fish from Saraga, and it was spoiled! yuck!

One of the live ones?

I'm vegetarian, but I always thought the live-fish idea was cool.

I do agree on their veggie selection. It's amazing. I'm always inspired to cook when I shop there.

The one on 96th near Costco is Asia Mart. They've remodeled over the past couple of years and has expanded, though still very much like a local Chinese grocer and nothing like a 99 Ranch Market.

Saraga is great if you're looking for additional Korean and Japanese selection as the store seems to be owned by Koreans.

For really great fresh vegetables I recommend this tiny place called East Asia Mart on Keystone/96th next to Burger King, behind Chase Bank. Prices are OK but their vegie selection are really fresh and seemingly local grown whereas a lot of the stuff at Asia Mart are trucked from Chicagoland area and you're forced to buy a huge batch. Vegetables is a weak point for Saraga - in the years I've been going there I've rarely seen really fresh stuff but if you catch them when they just got a shipment (Tuesday or Thursdays, forgot) it's OK.
