I am looking at moving into the group of apartements called Historic Marcy Village apartments. Does anyone know of this area or the complex itself and do you have any good or bad news about it? It seems to be located in Broad Ripple but I am not positive..

If those are the apartments near 46th and Indianola; they are not in Broad Ripple. I can't speak to the complex itself; but that area is a "fringe" area at best.

Unless you have looked at those in person, DO NOT even think about commiting to live there.

I have a vague idea of those and I would never even consider living there.

I agree with the last poster. You really need to see the neighborhood. I used to live at 53rd and could hear what was going on at the fairgrounds at 38th especially when they did the races. 46th used to be the absolute farthest south I would go even back in the 70s.

The decline has appeared to stop since many of these areas try to call themselves South Broad Ripple but it is spotty at best. I also would have to check the apartments themselves. This is a very very old set of buildings and I would need to see if they were modernized appropriately.

Don't do it. The apartments themselves aren't too bad but the area is awful. "Broad Ripple" truly refers to a small area from College Ave. East to somewhere around Broad Ripple Park, between the White River on the north and Kessler on the South. There is also a pretty good residential neighborhood south of Broad Ripple Ave (62nd Street) down to 54th Street or so, between Keystone and College. Many people call this "Broad Ripple" too, and it's pretty close, but not in walking distance to Broad Ripple Village. Then there's what is often called "South Broad Ripple," which extends south as far as the imagination of realtors will let it. There are some good apartment homes along College down as far as 52nd or so, but the farther south you go the shadier the area gets.

There are some rentals west of College too, but not as many.

That is kind of where the bad east side meets the not so bad east side. 38th and Post is AWFUL. 10th and Post is not bad. The area in between, which is where MArina is; is interesting. Many people uniformally dismiss the entire east side; which is not neccessary. The east side around 21st and Post, while not a prestigious area like Meridian-Kessler or something, is not exactly a "ghetto" either.

Given a choice, I would take Marina over the first choice.

There is someone at my work who lives at Fisherman's Village. He likes it. I can't speak about that complex beyond that. It is not technically in Speedway, and the area is not dangerous. In fact, I used to live near there at 38th and Eagle Creek Parkway. There are drawbacks to the area; but frequent threats to your personal safety is not one of them.
