Is this too much to ask when renting an apartment? I have never payed my own utilities other than standard electric. Paying for gas heat and water is nuts when renting. Anyone know of places of the top of your head that includes gas heat/water included in the rent. (like most normal places do) Thanks

Section 8 and Section 42 housing is the only type of housing I believe that includes stuff like that.

There are a few and they usually are the older buildings with one heating system and no separate meters for such. I have seen them advertised when driving around.

Check Zender (I dont really like) because a lot of their buildings are older. See how the Admiral uses hot water heating. No way to charge each apartment.

There is a place off I-465 near the 10th Street exit on the west side that advertises on a giant banner "free gas heat."

I don't think the apartment including gas heat and water in your rent is normal. I have always had to pay for utilities such as that in an apartment. I have had apartment communities include water and trash in the rent; meaning they add my usage to the rent bill monthly to the rent bill in lieu of me paying the utility company directly; but I still payed out of pocket.

It might be normal in Indiana getting free gas heat and cooking water, but in other large cities it is the defacto standard. Gas bills can run over $200 in the winter if you have the heat cranked. Electric heat might be cheaper.

When I had gas heat at Deercross; my highest gas bill was around 90 dollars. This was two winters ago. In my house, I only only exceeded 200 once; in February (mind you it is a small house).

Exactly why it's not free. I'm also willing to bet that rent in other large cities is significantly higher than Indianapolis.
