Hello all, I'll be moving into the Indianapolis area in late May and I'm wondering what area might be good for me. This will be my first job out of college, and I'd still like to make some noise without a lot of families around to be bothered by my volume.

I'd preferably like a free standing place, which there are plenty of here in Columbus, OH, but which I'm having trouble finding in internet searches of Indy so far.

Thanks alot for any guidance you can lend,
Jon

If I were 20 years younger and fresh out of college, I'd move to Broad Ripple or live somewhere downtown.

I agree--Broad Ripple is the place to be for young professionals not interested in "settling down" anytime soon!

Default Indy Areas

Broad Ripple is great, but it can be a bit pricey for what you get depending on how much you are looking to spend. Downtown and the Fall Creek revitalization area are great, but sometimes it is hard to find something freestanding within a reasonable price there.

I am 25 and I lived in Broad Ripple when I first moved down here. Everybody talks about all of the bars along BR Ave. and how great it is, but personally, I think unless you have just turned 21, it loses some of it's appeal...you know, party all the time? It has seemed to take a little bit of a downward spiral since I moved her 5 years ago, IMO. The downtown scene is way more appealing, I think. I live in Castleton, which is north of BR and south of Fishers. Love it, Love it!! You are about 20 minutes away from Downtown, 10 from BR and I have completely everything and anything that I want within 5 minutes. I live in a condo community on 96th St. and there are a lot of couples and single professionals where I live. I don't see many kids. I think 86th & Ditch (NW side) area is also nice. I used to live in the Meridian Hills area and I liked it really well because again, you are close to everything and can shoot down Meridian St.

I sell real estate in Indy, so if you have any questions about any area, PM me and I will be glad to answer any questions.

I read Intake each week and you might visit their website to get a feel for what is going on in the city.

I agree that the Castleton area has it all. also the Keystone Fashion Mall is fantastic. plenty of nice restaurants, stores and bustling with activity.

Default Indy move

Jon;
Broad Ripple might be the place for you, but for my tastes I've always loved visiting BR but never wanted to live there. The friends of mine that have were happy to move to quieter areas. My suggestion would be to check out whatever house you're planning on getting on a Friday or Saturday night before closing and make sure the atmosphere's what you want. There are some nice townhouses downtown depending on how your income is looking. I know I had some family (no kids) move in close to Massachusetts Avenue (locally, Mass Ave) and they love it - great art/music/food scene, sort of like Broad Ripple w/o the throngs of drunken college students. For me I've stuck to the quieter Eagle Creek/Avon/Carmel areas and loved them. Good luck in your search and your move!

Just wanted to second Broad Ripple for bars and socialization but Castleton and the ditch rd the realtor suggested are good too if you don't wan't a lot of noise etc. My son likes the area and is 27 and professional. His teacher girlfriend owns a home there. They are also members of some kind of young professionals org. that sponsors meet and greets and movie nights etc. Free tickets and hordervs. Hope someone can name it. He loves it and hears about all kinds of fun things to do for people just like you.

Ccani-
Im a young professional also in my 20's and am a pacific islander living in New Jersey right now. I am looking to move there next year and was wondering how you went about adjusting to the midwest life and if it was difficult. Is it nicer than the east coast? Anything you can tell me about your experience!
