I am curently in socal. I am married, we have two kids, 6 and 2. I am respiratory therapist, my husband an emt. What is the medical field like out in Indy? salary? Could anyone tell me hospitals in the area. i looked online but it's hard ti find them. Also, looking for a nice neighborhood to rent a house, at least 3 BR. My husband and I don't really enjoy socal. It has it's good points, the weather, and many things to do, but honestly we don't do them. Everything is so expensive, and a major chore to commute to all of the "fun". We want a family orientated area, laid and chill like us. My only concearn is we are pretty liberal, voter for nader and all! I am very excited being close to Notre Dae. My father raised us loving ND. They are my college team, so I find myself a minority in the USC loving southland! How long does it take to get to south bend. I would love my kids to see the campus. Thanks. i know I rambled a bit.

Why don't you consider northern indiana? Sweet is an awesome resource for indy and her post is spot on. In northern indiana, you're close to my beloved Chicago AND Notre Dame ... notice my moniker here. Plus, there are many more ND fans (read ticket scoring potential) up there.

It's wise to be leaving California. Bad as things are now, my hunch is that they'll continue to decline. As others have noted, there are many Healthcare opportunities in Indy (thought EMT requires individual state licensing, I think). That shouldn't be a big problem.
Indianapolis is one of the more liberal parts of Indiana, which is generally a more conservative state. I don't think that's changes much, though Obama carried it in 2008. Keep in mind it was liberal policies that brought California (and NY, NJ, etc) to its knees!

You're right, but there are bastions of liberalism (Detroit, Flint, etc) and they happen to be the parts of Michigan that are totally in the dumps. The state has moved strongly in the (D) direction since 2000 (when the Rs had the Governor's office and one Senate seat and perhaps most House seats). The point of my post is that liberal policies have been failures wherever they have been implemented. Michigan is one example, but certainly not the only one.

I disagree. Detroit was killed by white flight and Flint was killed by the collapse of the auto industry, not because of liberal policies.
