Hello,

My wife will be going to school in Indianapolis and I work at Chicago Downtown, and we are wondering if there is any mid-place for us to live, so each one of us would do 1.5 hours commute each way. Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Sai

Generally the answer would be no. It is Indy, Lafayette, Gary/merrillville, Chicago. That 3 hours of straight flat road if there are no delays due to constant construction or accidents. It would be 3 hours a day for each of you to commute at 1.5 hours each way. Bad bad thing. There are some small towns inbetween but few and far between and I don't know how close any of them are to the hiway, I65. There are a few people who live in Lafayette and commute to Indy but it is hard and sometimes impossible during the winter storms.

I would suggest your wife or yourself get a roommate type situation and commute for the weekends. You each could do some commuting for the school time. But for each of you to spend a minimum of 3 hours a day to commute and add the cost of the cars you are going to eat up, wow. What was discussed when she applied for the school or when you got your job in Chicago?

I checked out Craigslist and the newspapers and found several ads for female roommates wanted for about $500 per month. Could get less or more depending on where and how large a place. Maybe your wife could do some housesitting.
