just a quick hello those hailing from Indianapolis...my family & I were in town last weekend. I had to attend some meetings, but the girls went to the zoo and the children's discover museum which they both loved. downtown was great for walking around and an outing to the Indians baseball game was a lot of fun although short-lived because of the sudden bad weather. what we saw of the ballpark was very impressive though. our town of Chattanooga has a AA ball club that we very much enjoy.

only slightly negative observation was the lack of respect pedestrians are given by vehicles in the downtown area. maybe it was a fluke, but we were always having to dodge out of the way of drivers who didn't seem to care about yielding the right of way (even when we had it). perhaps there's some local law stating that it's okay to run over pedestrians in the cross walks (ok, I'm exaggerating here), but it did seem odd.

overall, we had a great time and look forward to perhaps visiting again. for those who want to know...we stayed at the Canterbury Hotel.

Not a fluke, drivers downtown are not concerned about right of way, but pedestrians are somewhat at fault here also. No one really uses the crosswalks or the lights, they just walk across wherever so drivers decided to rush people out of the road at all times. So basically walkers walk where they please and drivers honk and drive in ways that spite people walking.

Disconcerting for those who obey the traffic signals and are walking a four month old in a stroller with a four year old in tow. You should see how some say it works in California - someone steps off the sidewalk into the street and traffic comes to a screeching halt.
