Hello everyone! I just started an account on here, so please bare with me if I happen to do something wrong!! lol The reason for me posting is because myself and my 2 children are looking to move to the city. We currently live in a VERY small town/community about 45 mins southeast of Indianapolis. I have a job with a company out of Castleton and it makes for a long drive everyday. The questions that I am wanting to know is this.....which schools are good schools, where can I find affordable housing and safe neighborhood?? I was orginally looking for something in the Perry Township school district but then I am starting to notice that it is very expensive to live there! I had also checked out the Castleton/Fishers/Carmel/Noblesville area and that was far way more expensive than Perry Township! I am currently seeing someone out of the Castleton area and was hoping to be closer to him and his children however this obviously isn't the case because I can't afford it!!!! I would like to be near there though with good schools, safe neighborhood and affordable housing that I am not going to pay about the same amount that I would for a mortage! With all this being said, I was a little leary about moving my 2 small children to the city, only because my daughter is a very outgoing child and speaks to just about anyone! She knows about strangers and what to do, however she befriends a lot of kids...some worse than others. I know that many things go on in every school no matter where you go, however with the stories and the things that I have seen on T.V. about IPS schools I would rather my children not attend one. I would like to see them get into a nice township school preferably. Once again I know that there are things that happen everywhere in big cities and small towns as well for that matter, but I refuse to raise my children or live on the East side of Indy!!! Too many rough neighborhoods and too much crime and stuff going on! Like I said I would like a nice neighborhood where I feel safe living as a single mother of a 6 and 4 year old!! Any information that is given would be greatly appreciated!! I need to make this move sooner than I orginally thought I was going to have to, but I need help badly!!!! Thanks to all that take the time to give me information!!

Try looking at the Oaklandon section of Lawrence Township. The schools are good and there are many activities for kids. Sports of all Sorts is near Pendleton Pike and Sunnyside. There is also, soccer, gymnastics, baseball, football and basketball in the township. Drive east on 82nd across Fall Creek and it turns into 79th St. Then you will come to Suunyside. Take a look around!

It is also about 8 miles from Castleton.

You could also venture further east, into Hancock County (fortville, mccordsville, mt. comfort), north vernon schools ... small town, but close to Castleton.

What town do you in currently live in? That may help us find a *somewhat* comparable area in Indy metro. Also, what is your price range? Affordable means different things to different people

I might try the Washington Township school district. Also Pike and Lawrence, but I'm not sure how good they are.

Thank you very much to everyone that gave me information!! This has helped me out a lot and I think it is going to be an experience trying to find that perfect spot! To answer one of your questions I live in a small town about 45 mins southeast of Indy...the town itself is only 2.5 miles long, although the county is big it still is a very small "town"!! Affordable to me is $600 and under for the time being but I might be able to go higher than that since I won't have to worry about all of the gas expenses and everything with living so far away!!! Thank you everyone again for all this help it is very much appreciated!!
