My husband is considering a transfer to Indianapolis with his company. From what I can tell on the map, he would be working close to West Indianapolis.
We would like to find a small town or suburb, family-friendly, safe, with good schools, close to I-74. My family is from Cincinnati and I would like to be able to make that commute rather easily while my husband is working. He would be willing to travel up to 45 minutes to work.
We will be moving from Harrisburg, PA, so we will not have too many opportunities to come check out the area.
I would appreciate any help or advice anyone can offer!

Thank you!

East of Indy right off I-74 is Fairland In-my brother in law lives there in a suburb it's middle class nice new homes-he drives to the west side of Indy to work everyday-about 45 min or little less I would guess.

Your husband is going to drive 45 minutes one way every working day (1.5 hours a day) so the family can be 45 minutes closer to the much less often traveled route to Cincinnati. Is there anyone else that finds this stange?

If the job is on the west side, live on the west side and those occasional times you are going to Cincinnati, grab the interstate and drive the little bit extra. Husband will have more time with family, and easier commute, less costly commute, etc. Lots of nice houses and great schools on the west side.

Right now we are just considering all options. The commute is not that much of a concern since he works 4 on/4 off. We do not know anything about the area. How are the areas of Greenwood, Plainfield, Avon, Fishers?

Scroll through a few of the previous threads, and you will find a LOT of info about all of these areas. 74 goes right through Brownsburg in Hendricks County (just west of Indy) and it will be even easier to jump right onto 74 once the Ronald Regan Parkway is complete. It will stretch from 74 south to 70, through Brownsburg, Avon, and Plainfield.

The best advice I could offer is to come for a visit and see as many of the areas you are considering as possible!

Shelbyville is a nice, small town, although it may be a stretch to make it to the westside in 45 minutes.

All nice areas -My brother lives in Fishers and it's considered one of the best family communities in the country(growing very fast)-Greenwood Plainfield and Avon are nice too.
