Go to a library that carries Consumer Reports. Get the May issue. They just did a test on RO systems.

The pipe water, at least here in the downtown area, now has less of that moldy smell and taste. I never drink Indy water. When I first moved here, my church pastor and relatives told me to always buy bottled water or be a regular customer of a bottled-water company.

I have read poor ratings on the water in the entire Indianapolis metro area. I was surprised.

We have more pressing needs, such as giving billions of taxpayer dollars to billionaires who own professional sports teams. Don't worry, the city is once again raising taxes, a/k/a fees, only continuing on the same path that will lead it to become Detroit South.

The water does seem to be tasting better but that's with a Brita pitcher. Ravekid is right - water and libraries aren't as important as sports teams and high rolling image.

I was there last summer and the water tasted bad then. Of course, I'm used to fresh mountain water so maybe that's the problem. But I find it hard to believe this is such a "current" problem since it was crappy smelling and tasting last summer.

If I recall correctly, the conditions of Chicago's water system took a real nosedive in the summer as well. Algae blooms perhaps? At any rate, it's not uncommon for cities in the Midwest to struggle with the taste of the water in the summer. By no means an attractive selling point, but I guess it's more important that it's safe to drink.
