We just spent the morning in Indy. What a nice day. We rented a surrey and enjoyed the canal. We've not been to that area for a couple of years and I am shocked by the new hotel at Washington and West.
How ugly!!! Beautiful limestone buildings around and then this Marriott monstrosity! It just ruins this area. What were they thinking?!?!? I am so sad and disappointed. Ugh. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
I cannot believe this was passed/allowed.

I actually like the design and look of the new J.W. It's all subjective. It's not like Indy is Rome, Paris, or London with a lot of buildings that are hundreds or thousands of years old and we need to preserve the historical look of the city.

It will be a great hotel to have in this city and I'm looking forward to staying there the weekend it opens. Of course, we are Marriott Platinum members so we're a little biased.

Do you think the building itself is ugly (design-wise/aesthetics) or that it just doesn't belong in Indianapolis?

I actually like it myself. I think the blue glass is very pretty, and I guess I always kind of connected the color blue with Indy anyway. Probably because with the Colts, the Pacers, and Butler there's so frequently blue decorations and people wearing blue downtown. Of course, the older buildings have a lot of charm that some of the newer one's don't.

Well said. It's about time we get more modern high-rises in Indianapolis.
