Sometime in the fall I will be moving out of my mother's home and into my own. I have two apartments in mind. One of them is called Reverie Estates and they are located off of East Fall Creek Parkway. The other apartments are called Nola Court and they are located off of 46th & Indianola Ave in South Broad Ripple. I am not familiar with these complexes and/or locations but the reason I picked them is because they are close to my job and they are reasonable prices. They are not on apartmentratings.com so I have no clue if they are in safe neighborhoods. Please help if you have information. Thanks!

Can someone tell me which area is better in terms of safety?

1) The area in or between 46th & College Avenue and 46th & Keystone Avenue?

or

2) The area in or between 38th & College Avenue and 38th & Fall Creek Parkway?

38th and College is south of the fairgrounds and not considered an up and coming area. Older big poorly maintained houses although there are a few renovated ones on Fall Creek both Single family and rentals. However, crime is an issue and has been for a long time. Numerous burglaries have caused a number of people to move out.

46th area is north of the fairgrounds and trying to call itself South Broad Ripple but that is pushing the limits. Has a bunch of single family one story homes and some older rentals. I have not walked the area but see a lot of renovated properties for sale and rent so others are investing. If I had to choose, I would look here first. I used to live at 53rd and Ralston about 20+ years ago and it is pretty stable. The value that Broad Ripple adds is pushing the values up even this far away.

Neither one of these areas are very nice and have quite a bit of crime nearby, particularly the one near 38th and Fall Creek. I had friends that lived in the apartments immediately to the east of the ones you are looking at on 46th and it was sketchy as well. There were actually a couple police officers with guns drawn trying to get a person out of his car right there one day on 46th. I wouldn't feel good about walking around at night by myself in either area but if you go north and west of the area on 46th you're looking at, things get better.

I'm not sure what your price range is, but the places you're looking at start in the upper $400's per month for rent. Without a roommate to split things with you probably won't find many decent apartments that are in safe neighborhoods where rent starts that low. If you can go a little higher, but want to stay near the Broad Ripple area, you might look at Shore Acres (Shore Acres in Indianapolis, IN=). I looked at them recently when I was looking for a place and thought they were nice enough.

Yeah the most I can afford is about $470-480 right now considering I'm planning on having a car note sometime next year. It's frustrating trying to find apartments that are affordable for me AND safe. Ugh!!!

Noether are what I consider safe nor would I consider living in either area. Although if you live on the westside of college just north of 46th street it is getting nice

Thanks guys. I REALLY appreciate it. Toxic Toast, it appears Pickwick Place is too far from my job. Stuck at square one again!
