I have Tlme Warner Cable.
Now they tell me to download IE 7 or 8 because they do not support my IE 6
anymore.
I have Windows XP.
Is this a good Idea??
What kind of problems can I expect with this?? If any.
But really, your cable company is just a provider to connect you to the internet. Does your phone company care if you speak English or French or Spanish, no, they just carry your voice.
^ Yeah, Microsoft may not support IE6, but your cable company has nothing to do with it. You should still be able to use IE6. But then again, why would you want to?
It seems wherever I go on the 'net, including my ISP's homepage, I'm encouraged to upgrade to IE8 -- sometimes the notifications read as though I have no choice; however, I'm still using IE6 and although "not supported" it suits me fine. The only issues I've encountered are things like certain graphics on some websites won't load, but they really do not hinder functionality.
If it ever comes down to the point that I must upgrade my browser, I'll go with Firefox before IE8. I'm not certain if IE8 is like IE7, but when I did try to upgrade to IE7 earlier this year, I created such a monster. Perhaps I missed some opt-out opportunities to avoid a bazillion mini-apps and toolbars that IE7 installed on my machine, but my poor XP desktop got so bogged down. Fortunately I was able to backtrack, get rid of IE7, and reinstall IE6.
I have IE6 and Firefox on my laptop, and I like Firefox.
