The web has really moved beyond 56K over the last decade, pages that don't necessarily need to be bloated are. You have a lot of use of very large JS files, video, flash etc. Simple example I can think of from my own site which is generally very light is the use of .png images on my index page. These are the only images compatible with browsers that provide alpha transparency that could provide the effect I wanted and are generally a lot larger than .jpg.

They do not turnover much of what you do to computer. Just as many still have no computer and get a long as before. Actually I am not getting things done has much to do with sitting in front of a computer much.

I started on webtv way back in 97.

Discovered the LBB through a friend that was a tutor to many back then.

then I finally got DSL & what a difference that made !

And if you have the chance to move to FIOS from DSL .. It is a bigger jump than going from dial-up to DSL!

Dreaming at what I could do at: 300/65 Mbps
(FiOS Quantum Maximum Speed)

Compare this to my old Verizon DSL of: 1.5 Mbps / 128 Kbps

We used to always get dropped also and I dont know why!!!!!!

I was starting to wonder if the ISP was doing it ON PURPOSE to try and get us to switch to broadband??

I wasn't using dial up in 2001. I no longer have a landline, and never will again. I remember when I first got cable internet... going from 4-5 kilobytes per second to 234 kilobytes per second, was just the most amazing experience I've ever had. I still appreciate the speeds to this day.
