Privacy-conscious users have sounded the alarm after it emerged the "New Tab" thumbnail feature in Firefox 13 is "taking snapshots of the user's HTTPS session content".

Mozilla acknowledged that the behaviour was undesirable and promised a patch. In the meantime, the browser and email client firm points privacy-conscious users towards various workarounds, as a statement (below) explains. [more]

DWs computer has that version of FF. I become less and less enchanted with FF. My version demands a secure connection to Google searches, and on satellite the wait can be a minute or more. I either have to keep a Google tab open or use something else like Yahoo, or go to a third computer that has an older version.

I don't understand why people use tabs anyway. Easier to do it other ways.

If there's an easier way I'd like to know what it is.

I have several sites that I check several times a day (CD being one of them) with a single middle click on a folder in my favorites I get 8 tabs open. For each new article on each forum, I right click and use snap links to open the newest article in a new tab. In no more that 10 seconds I can have 20, 30, or 50 tabs open. Couldn't be simpler.

I have one site that I only check in the evening (photo related), and it has between 150 and 300 new images a day. I have a custom version of snap links that allows me to open all of those tabs at once (with a single mouse gesture) with a 2 second delay between tabs opening (to allow the images to load). Again, I don't see an easier way to manage that much data without tabs.

I wonder if anyone could even take advantage of this remotely or even locally? I mean if the browser was set to dispense with its cache once it's closed then not sure if it really matters? Even shared computers are typically log on based so someone getting to that data seems a bit remote to me.

Odd, I only had to change the last bold setting, the first one was already set to false.
