We have been using Yahoo lately since we relocated (which we do every couple of years) and my account was just compromised this week so that spam is being sent out in my name. I have decided to kick Yahoo permanently to the curb but am unsure what service would be good. We are very careful with our accounts and use one of the best anti-virus/security programs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am sort of anti-technology and if I could, I would just move to the woods and run over the computer and cell phone on my way out of town, maybe backup and run over them a couple more times before leaving for the woods.

This is likely not the provider's fault, but your password's fault! Get a longer password, and make sure it isn't a name or a word that appears in any dictionary.
First I've heard of that one. Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer was probably livid about it. Email might be the last area of Yahoo that still has a huge following.
I had a couple clients get hit, one even sent me spam after getting hijacked.
For the OP, Gmail seems to be a standard by which other webmail providers are judged, I've been using it for 10 years give or take, probably one of the best spam filters available.
Thank you SO much for the posts. I think we'll look into gmail as I do know a few people who use that. I did suspect that it was Yahoo's fault. It was strange that I had the Classic still and after invasion, I had that new and latest crappy version. Thank you again.
Don't discount Yahoo! altogether. I have several Yahoo! emails, each for its own purpose. I don't give out my 'standard' email address, using it only for utilities and/or other communications I want to save for posterity. Those emails go through a filter at POBOX.com then forwarded to my internet/email provider. I use Thunderbird email to download those emails. I don't generally give that email info to anyone.
I use gmail and yahoo for signing up for things that have a large propensity to result in some kind of junk email. Like CNN news updates, or HuffPo, etc. And one for a blog I have that nobody I know has any idea exists.
Second this. Gmail with 2-step verification is much more secure than your average webmail service.
