5Mbps = 5000kbps
Dial-up = 56kbps
It's almost 100 times faster and would actually be faster than most cable connections back in the late 90's. 5Mbps is more than suitable for the average user except the delivery of higher quality video like Netflix. I believe Netflix tops out at 5Mbps so they will step you down to a lower quality video which isn't going to be very noticeable on such small devices anyway. As already noted the key word in the advertisement is "up to". |

Can anyone recommend a good, fast and reliable Internet service provider besides Comcast? My rates keep going higher($100/month) and i normally call them about discontinuing service which in turn, gets me a promotional offer for a few months, but it didn't work this time. I've had them for 6 yrs. Is there one that will include Internet for under $50? How about Internet and TV for under $70? Are so many keeping Comcast nowdays due to no other firm providing comparable service or speed? Thanks.

If you can get Sprint 4G in your area check out wirelessnwifi. You have to call in order to set up the 4G account ( they only advertise the wi-max on the website). 100gb cap
Millenicom offers Verizon 4G service (20gb cap) and Sprint 4G (50GB cap).

I have 6Mb DSL service through AT&T and it's fine. I'm able to stream Netflix and it looks fine. It doesn't step down to lower quality. It may step down at 5Mb though. If your choice is 5Mb DSL or satellite - especially if it's capped usage, it's a no brainer. Go with the 5Mb DSL. The 4G cards are fine for browsing, but if you plan on streaming movies or anything like that forget about it. You'll burn through their usage caps in no time.

Looks like the wireless deals are coming to an end. Today Millenicom users got an e-mail saying Sprint is dropping service to Millenicom customers. There is speculation that they will drop wireless n wifi as well.
Rural people just can't get a break regarding internet. Every available option is a very small data cap. Satalite is around 30gb and the major wireless companies cap data at 10gb.

Saw that, and it looks like Clearwire (another Sprint reseller) isn't supporting the unlimited (30 GB) plan either.
Millenicom still has the Verizon 20 GB plan, but if you were in a Sprint area the Unlimited (actually 50 GB) plan was nice. I know a number of people that work remotely that had Sprint, or Sprint and Verizon plans from Millenicom that now going to only have Verizon. |

I still haven't heard back from Time Warner on whether they can service the house or not. I am starting to think they can't do it, which leaves me with just Cincy Bell.  |

Something is funky with Sprint 4G lately. Many users are reporting Sprint data use reports are showing double what they are expecting and what their normal use pattern is. I just looked at my reported use and it is close to what I typically use in a MONTH ten days into the billing cycle.

Personally, I would get both cincinatti bell, and hughes net.
I hate satellite internet, the signal will go out all the time, especially in cloudy weather, storms, snow, etc
But when it's working at its best it will be faster than the cinci bell... But for times when you can't use that, or go over your usage limit, just switch to the cinci bell.
If I had to only get one, it would be cinci bell. And I would try to learn to not use internet for anything other than the necesiities like banking and email.
