Another person with their head buried in the sand.

This is a quote from Google CEO Eric Schmidt in 2009 when asked about invading people's privacy......

"If you have something that you don't want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn't be doing it in the first place. "

Talk about arrogance. He is the self appointed arbiter of what your privacy rights should be.

They are gathering so much data from people it is insane. 97% of their revenue comes from advertisers so that will never change. That is their competitive advantage.

They aren't the only ones, all of these Internet companies keep asking for more and more information. Yahoo will not let you open an email account without giving out your phone number.

In case anyone is wondering, the end game is to eventually link all of your off line behavior with your on line behavior. That is the gold strike they are working towards.

As of now, they can't make the connection unless you give out phone numbers addresses, etc. to search companies. They connect that to your credit card number and boom, they know more about you than you do.

Keep trusting them without questioning them if that is your naive game.

I don't know everyone HATES on the Big "G"...I love em, simply because:

1. I limit what I put out about myself online!
2. I use throw-away phone numbers when it comes to having to 'register' a new account for one reason or another!
3. I make my income off of their 'services', such as their blogging platform, their Google Places, their keyword tool and their advertising platform (Adwords) to name just a few!

As it has been stated however, if you don't like em'...use another service!

That's what makes the INTERNET GREAT...you can always find another lower-cost "source" for whatever your needs are... as long as you're interested in looking for it!

Good for you.

Yes, they know nothing about you because you said it.

Because you are in partnerships with them to make a few pennies, they actually know more about you than the average person who simply uses their search engine.

Naive.

People who say things like, "if you don't like your privacy attacked, use another service" are like sheep.

You are missing the point. They are ALL trying to get into your business, Google is simply the best at it.

let me guess, the OP was asked questions to set up his google + profile

Yes, those questions are very intrusive , like "where do you work"
"post a picture of yourself"
"where do you live"
"where do you go to school"
"whats your phone number"
etc
etc

Too bad that smart people just make up stuff. If only the OP didn't think it was the law to put in correct info.
