You think they care?

There are many competitors. http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php gives a choice of a number of maps. Downside, no search, you have to find it yourself. Upside, the maps are much, much more printer-friendly than Google Maps.

Another mapping strategy is to look up a place on Wikipedia, then click on the coordinates in the upper right. You'll be given a menu of several dozen maps to open. Including coll things like a night-lights map, and a utility map you can draw on before printing.

For one, when you shrink the box of the address you searched on the pointer to the address also disappears, and you still have a totally useless box taking up screen space.

They care at least as much as facebook cares about users privacy.

If you have problems with the huge box shpwing results, click on the "x" on the upper right of the box. That reduces it to the basic search field.

Sometimes when you hide the big box, it will reappear when you move.
