There are many providers offering different amounts of gigabytes and different prices.
How did you determine what you needed per month? How much do you use?
For mail/ light internet surfing
mail/internet/view short videos
smart TV apps/roku/hulu/netflix full length movies -Did you keep your cable TV service?
We have Netflix, two or three computers running. It seems to totally depend on how much video we stream. NetFlix is nice for HD video. Probably go up when NetFlix starts broadcasting in 4000K.
We have municipal fiber at $50/month for 100Mbps service in small city in eastern Washington.
I use about 35 to 40GB per month. I can only get wireless internet through a reseller of Sprint 4G service. They call it "unlimited" but they will cut you off if you exceed 100gb per month and they are considering lowering the cap to 60gb per month.
I watch about 2hrs of netflix a day on the lowest streaming quality and do some other things. It kind of sucks internet wise for rural people. I pay 80 dollars a month for this service.
We have ranged from 50GB-75GBB over the past three months; well under the 300 gig limit. We have a Roku, but do not watch it very much.
Most homes that exceed bandwidth limits do so via. streaming video (e.g. Netflix or other on-demand services.) To be safe, I would estimate that a full length movie uses about 2GB of data. This figure could be lower, if the video is not high definition.
We use Comcast/Xfinity. Usage can be monitored via. a desktop app, a mobile app, or via. web on our online account.
Here is a question that just came to mind: If I stream an on-demand move (or other video) via. my Xfinity cable box, does the bandwidth for that movie included in my monthly bandwidth allowance?

Generally no. Most providers exempt their own services.
