Unfortunately they removed the BB code tag on this forum, otherwise it would have maintained structure including indents instead of spaces and even been highlighted.

[code=php][/code] ...does not work and neither does [code][/code]

I like that at least you do use tabs!

Alas, my final programmatic goal is to avoid writing another line of code for the rest of my life.

Unfortunately I'm an indentured tech admin and server op on a dedicated server that I can't leave without letting down my friends.

I'll probably be writing code this summer (new features) but we have no forum spam problem.

You remember the old engineering saying, "Don't fix what ain't broke!"

I am so fed up with that stuff!!
Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network. This page checks to see if it's really you sending the requests, and not a robot.
I work in a big hospital, and of course there is "unusual" traffic from the network.
Why they can't recognize the computer I am working on, for years now?? It was pretty bad , but now it's a real nightmare!
I click on the damn picture captcha, but it doesn't matter that I DO click on the RIGHT pictures - it continues to ask me to click on more, and more, and more.... endlessly.
Now I am using the "Incognito" window, but why I am experiencing so much of this PITA???

Dear website owner. I will no longer visit sites thqt use the captcha or recaptcha system. A group is starting a site that lists all sites that use it so we can all avoid them. Find a better solution.

I agree that they are often very difficult to read and I too increase screen magnification like OP Neuling stated.

Before we got high-speed internet, it was impossible to access our power bill online, because Captcha kept kicking us out. It was extremely frustrating, because we ended up having to pay our bill over the phone, which cost us even more money.

The zoom problem has mostly gone away since I opened the thread a few years ago. Nowadays I rarely encounter the letter-based variant anymore, it is mostly image tiles these days, at least with the sites I happen to use. There the problem is that it keeps loading new tiles repeatedly and you never know when you are finished. Just a few days ago there was an absurd example, it seemed like never-ending, felt like two minutes or so of clicking...

How does that even work with people that have limited or no vision?

Or a lack of patience? I view any clicking past one screen to be an annoyance. There's another site that does the same thing without all the BS.

Off I go...

If it were up to me, it would be REQUIRED BY THE LAW that all sites not use CAPTCHA, and still manage to avoid spambots ANYWAY, I'm totally serious. The same goes for sites showing content in "slideshow" format vs having it all on 1 single page.
