Say good-bye to CAPTCHA, the boxes of warped text that separate humans from bots online. AI company Vicarious claims to have developed an algorithm that can pass the test about 90 percent of the time. What will save us from spam now? These alternatives could come to a site near you.

I block about 1000 spam registrants per day and to the best of my knowledge that has an accuracy of 100%, e.g no false positives. A handful get through weekly and they are easy to spot even before they post.I don't use a captcha, there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Image captchas that use letters are certainly going the way of the dinosaur however who said it has to be letters or even an image? One of the most effective captchas you can use is one that asks a unique question and no bot is going to pass that unless it's name is Watson.

It would be a shame to lose an initiative like reCAPTCHA. If the algorithm is as good as they claim, maybe they can use it to replace reCAPTCHA.

Good riddance. So much time wasted trying to figure out what exactly that half mark was. Apparently it was a letter, however, because you could NOT advance until you figured it out.

One I've come to like is the one that asks a question is takes a human to answer correctly.

That is probably what the bots are doing as well
