Once in a while I check my programs just to see what's there.

Today I found something called NeroControlCenter and NeroSmartStart. I googled this but haven't found anything definitive, except a lot of people are asking the same question I'm asking!

I use the free Avast antivirus program and it's not identifying Nero as malware, but what the heck is Nero and how did it get onto my computer? I am extremely careful about what I download or open. The Nero main site appears legit, but offers nothing I want or need.

Nero isn't malware, it's a CD/DVD authoring tool, been around for a long time but has become very bloated. If you don't use it you can uninstall it or disable those startup items.

Nero isn't bad. It's a quality program. Better then using Microsoft's built in burning software.
